Spring has arrived! In many of our ancestors’ traditions winter is the time to slow down and take in the shorter days, an invitation to be still and prepare for the work ahead in spring. We see that our seeds for creating more racial equity and justice in our communities are still just starting to sprout—they will need care and attention to grow and flourish. These months have given us pause to plan how LREP can grow to serve what is needed in our community with intention and clarity. We are currently seeing the many places where being in solidarity to those most vulnerable and impacted by injustice can help strengthen those seeds.
The recent uptick in violence against Asian Americans—led by racist framing of the coronavirus pandemic—uplifts the importance of being allies in more than just words. Read this article to find more ways to actively support the Asian American community. LREP stands in solidarity and action with our Asian sisters and brothers.
Children, our most vulnerable, are still being held in detention centers after being separated from their families with no clear plan from the current Administration on how to reunite them or to support their healing from the impact the trauma of this separation has caused. That impact will likely last for many generations to come. We have joined forces with a collective of organizations to uplift the voices of these children and ask the Biden-Harris administration to #UncageReUnifyHeal those still being held. We aim to show that our support extends within and beyond our own communities. That’s where you come in. We hope you are among those that find the idea of caged children separated from their families as reprehensible as we do and believe in the basic human rights of families and children.
