In honor of the International Day of Afro-Latin American, Afro-Caribbean and Diaspora Women celebrated annually on July 25th, we want to uplift and center the vision, labor, organizing and creativity of Black women in the Americas and in the Diaspora to bring visibility, truth and justice to the forefront of society and to movements pushing back against colonial powers..

El Día Internacional de las Mujeres Afrolatinas, Afrocaribeñas, y de la Diáspora was established in 1992 at the first convening of Mujeres Afrolatinas, Afrocaribeñas y de la Diáspora in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. This day was created to recognize the work of Black women in Latin America, the Caribbean & beyond in the fight against racial discrimination, sexism, poverty, and marginalization.

From this convening emerged Red de Mujeres Afrolatinoamericanas, Afrocaribeñas y de la Diáspora, which to this day is “a space for the articulation and empowerment of Afro-descendant women for the construction and recognition of democratic, equitable, just, multicultural societies, free of racism, racial discrimination, sexism and exclusion, and the promotion of interculturality.”

Below are some dope organizations doing amazing work in Latin American & The Caribbean that we admire and encourage you to learn more about their work.
